Bamboo craft products that are characteristic of Tangerang Regency have successfully entered the top four nomination proposals for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) or UNESCO Creative City Network in 2025. The products were officially proposed by the Tangerang Regency Government (Pemkab).
Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), Ujang Sudiartono, stated that the UCCN program is an effort by the Tangerang Regency Government to introduce creative economy products, especially bamboo crafts.
“Bamboo products that are characteristic of Tangerang Regency, one of which is bamboo hats, this is what we are fighting for so that they can enter the international level,” he said in a follow-up meeting in the Wareng Meeting Room of the Tangerang Regent’s Building, Monday (30/9/2024).
Three other regencies/cities that also made it to the top four are Ponorogo Regency, Malang City, and Makassar City. Currently, the Tangerang Regency Government is making preparations through a number of related Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) to fulfill the required files.
“Currently, we are in the final stage of selection. It is still necessary to collect and improve the data requested by the national selection committee of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) to perfect the dossier,” he said.
Ujang hopes that with the support of regional apparatus and the community, Tangerang Regency can qualify to become part of the UNESCO Creative City network in 2025.
“We hope that with this short time we can prepare and fulfill the required files, so that Tangerang Regency can become part of the UNESCO creative city network, and the potential of Tangerang Regency can be known internationally,” he concluded.
